Babaliba is a video-adventure with fast movements and frenetic action.

Babaliba is a Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer game programmed by Víctor Ruiz, founder of Dinamic, one of the great software companies of Spanish software "golden age", in 1985. It is part of the trilogy started with Saimazoom, followed by Babaliba and ended with the amazing Abu Simbel Profanation, starring Johnnie Jones.
Babaliba is a video-adventure with fast movements and frenetic action. Colourful and big sized graphics, not forgetting we are talking about a 1985 Spectrum game.

The goal of the game could be the script of a 50's decade adventures movie starred by Clark Gable, or more recently by Indy Jones (the character that "inspired" Johnnie): Bad guy kidnapps our friend and, obviously, we must rescue him and, by the way, pick up the treasure he is keeping in the palace and also kidnap his beautiful daughter. Easy? Let's try it.
babaliba

The aim we had creating this remake is honoring Dinamic, whose 20th anniversary was last year 2004 and the game itself, because this year 2005 will be its 20th anniversary too. We started doing the game a couple of years ago, but the project has been stopped for a long time until we have decided to restart it to cooperate with REDO project at Remakes Zone.

We hope you will enjoy playing this game as we have done creating it.

Horror Adventure Game Serena Weaves A Haunting Marital Tale.

$

If you’re a fan of adventure games, psychological horror and very-much-almost-peeing-yourself-in-fright, then Serena is the right game for you! A point-and-click self-described as a “twisted letter to the adventure gaming community,” Serena is by all means an interesting experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The labour of love of over forty contributors, including both developers and adventure game junkies, this short gem should tickle your horror bone and make you feel wistfully nostalgic for games of this type at the same time.
Released for free on Steam on the 30th of January, Serena is available for PC, Mac and Linux, is around an hour long in playtime and is recommended to be played while sitting on a waterproof chair.

Serena really isn’t that scary. Even though it’s professedly a highly detailed horror game, there are no jump scares, and there was only one scene that almost made me leap from my seat.
serena1

You play as Serena’s husband, bumbling about a homey cottage and wondering just where your dear wife has gotten to. You can’t quite seem to remember anything at first. Not her face, nor the colour of her hair – not even the last time you made love together. The game is also a one-room dealio, but the contents of the cabin are so rich that this doesn’t detract from the gameplay in the least.
indie game indie statik serena 2
The way the horror in Serena is crafted is very subtle and even surprising to the player when things seem to gradually take a turn for the worse. Just the little things at first, like the poem on the wall changing from words of whimsy to twisted verse, the intonation of the protagonist’s voice gradually getting more rageful and the scraps that you begin to remember after jogging your memory a little.

The story takes you along for the ride, along with the wonderfully atmospheric background noise, which includes an incessantly ticking cuckoo clock and some beautifully melancholy music. Serena is also totally voice acted by adventure game designer Josh Mandel and Pushing Up Roses, which is a nice touch and only adds to the immersion in the game and its tale.

I was surprised to find out that this game was actually a tribute to a lady named Serena, a vocal advocate for the promotion of adventure games in the gaming community – not because she didn’t deserve it, but because the game itself is quite… odd, and the character she’s named after is a bit off, too.

After some turmoil in the adventure gaming community between Paul Trowe and Serena Nelson, the developers in the genre banded together to create this tribute to her and her work in the community, to counter-balance the damage that had been done to both her and the others it had affected. It’s a strange kind of tribute, which you may understand if you’ve played the game, but it’s a tribute, nonetheless.
indie game indie statik serena 3
Serena keeps you guessing right until the credits roll, and you probably won’t understand exactly what happened even by the end of the game. It’s a nice touch to keep you questioning the story and just what unfolded between the characters, rather than finishing it up nice and square with a bow on top.

My only qualm with the game was that it was often difficult to understand what was needed to progress to the next stage of the story, only to find out that usually it’s down to time and a lot of clicking. I also had some issues being unable to exit the game after the credits rolled while also having my cursor stuck to the top-left of the screen, but seems like merely a technical issue.

The story takes a short while to get engaging as it’s a bit ho-hum at the start, but the ending is well worth the wait, so for zero dollars, Serena is definitely worth an hour of your time.

You can download Serena for free on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux here.

Mednafen is a multi-system emulator, driven from the command-line.

Mednafen is a multi-system emulator, driven from the command-line. Many of its cores are ports of other emulators, but many of them are also original. Its Playstation and PC Engine original cores are notable for their high quality, compatibility and accuracy.

Mednafen only has a command line interface, so its interface might be hard to use to new users.

The best cores in Mednafen are those that are original - which are the PS1, PCE, PC-FX and Virtual Boy cores. The PCE core is one of the best emulators for that system, with a Fast and Accurate version.

The PS1 core is native resolution only, and features high degree of accuracy and compatibility. The Virtual Boy core is one of the best for the system, although it does not attempt to reproduce the 3D.
Mednafen

Other cores improve upon emulators that have been long abandoned and rarely updated. These include the Neo Geo Pocket, WonderSwan Color and Atari Lynx cores.

Other cores are less useful, as there are better options in stand-alone emulators (NES, Genesis, Master System and SNES). These cores might even be based on out-dated versions.

For instance, the SNES core is based on an old outdated version of bSNES. This is before the performance/accuracy/balanced cores - 0.50x territory - with a couple of changes by Ryphecha.

Core Features.
  • Physical joystick/gamepad support.
  • Versatile input configuration system; assign multiple physical buttons to a virtual button or action.
  • Multiple graphics filters and scaling modes.
  • Save states.
  • Real-time game rewinding.
  • Screen snapshots, saved in PNG format.
  • QuickTime movie recording.
  • MS WAV-format sound logging.
  • Loading games from gzip and (pk)zip compressed archives.
  • Network play(utilizing an external dedicated server program).
To play a game that consists of more than one CD, and you are using ripped disc images, you will need to create an M3U file(plain-text, ".m3u" extension), and enter the filenames of the CUE/TOC/CCD files, one per line. Load the M3U file with Mednafen instead of the CUE/TOC/CCD files, and use the F6 and F8 keys to switch among the various discs available.

Note: Preferably, your M3U file(s) should reference CUE/TOC/CCD files that are in the same directory as the M3U file, otherwise you will likely need to alter the filesys.untrusted_fip_check setting.
Support for multi-disc games when using physical CDs is somewhat clunky. To begin with, you'll need to start Mednafen with the first disc of the set in the drive. To switch to a different disc, press the F8 key, which should eject the disc. If the disc fails to eject, use the drive's eject button, and press F8 again so that Mednafen displays a message like "Virtual CD Drive Tray Open". Place the disc you're switching to in the drive, close the lid/tray/whatever(if applicable), and press the F8 key again. If you're using a standard PC-type drive with extending tray, you may just press F8 to close the tray instead of manually closing it and then pressing F8.

Kbounce is a clone of the popular Jezzball game originally created by Microsoft. The game is very simple but it needs skill, timing and patience to finish it. You will win if you can fill at minimum 75% of the area with the bricks. You have to do it fast because you only have 90 seconds.

Kbounce1

How to play?

  • Open Applications > Games > Kbounce.
  • When you start the game, there are 2 balls that bounce off inside this square area.
  • All you have to do is click the cursor on any parts inside the square to create bricks partition (wall).
  • The bricks can be built horizontal and vertical. The default is horizontal.
  • To switch between Horizontal and Vertical use Right Mouse Button.
  • You have to count to the right time and position before you start to click the area because you only have one chance.
  • First time the ball hit your ‘growing wall‘, the wall will be disappear starting the hit part.
  • Second time the ball hit your ‘growing wall‘, you lose.
Kbounce2009worldrecord-danbrady
  • The easy trick that I have is separate the balls.
  • If you can do it, it will be easier for your to focus on one ball first.
  • Then start build vertically, finish the first area then continue with the other area.

  • If you are lucky, you can fill 50% area directly.
  • Then start build it vertically.

  • Continue until the area is getting smaller.
  • But you have to be careful, because once the balls hit your ‘growing wall‘ you have to start the again.

  • After you finish the 75% area, you will go to the next level.

Bovo is a Gomoku-like game for KDE.

$

Bovo is a Gomoku like game for two players, where the opponents alternate in placing their respective pictogram on the game board. The aim of this game is to connect five of your own pieces in an unbroken row vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

Objective:
Bovo is part of the KDE project http://www.kde.org/.
Bovo can be found in the kdegames package on ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/, the main FTP site of the KDE project.
For detailed information on how to compile and install KDE applications see Building and Running KDE Software From Source

Since KDE uses cmake you should have no trouble compiling it. Should you run into problems please report them to the KDE mailing lists.

Connect five of your own pieces in an unbroken row vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

The first time Bovo is started it is launched in demo mode where two AI players battle each other. You can always start a new game using the New button on the toolbar, the Game → New menu entry on the menubar or using the default shortcut Ctrl+N.

bovo01
Note:
Because the first player always has an advantage over the second player, Bovo will alternate the players, switching them every new game.
If you are the first player - start the game by placing your pictogram anywhere on the playing field. If you are the second player wait until the first player places the pictogram and then do the same yourself. You can place your mark into any square on the field, unless it’s already occupied by another game piece (regardless of whether it’s your pictogram or that of your opponent’s).

You have to place your pieces in a way that prevents your opponent from connecting five marks in an unbroken row vertically, horizontally or diagonally. In the same time you have to connect five of your own pieces in an unbroken row vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Whoever succeeds in doing so first – wins the round.

Game Rules.
Players take turn to place their respective marks on the playing board.
A player cannot move their already placed mark or put their mark upon an already placed mark.
    Players cannot forfeit their turns.
Player who reaches five marks connected in a straight line (be it vertical, horizontal or diagonal) wins the game.
Game Tips
When Bovo is started the first time, it needs resizing. Resize the game window to desired size, and Bovo will scale up the playing board.
The first time Bovo is started it is launched in demo mode, where two AI players battle each other.
When Bovo is exited prior to game over, the active game is auto saved. If Bovo detects an auto saved game at startup, it is restored. If not, Bovo launches a demo mode.
bovo02
You can always start a new game with the New button in the toolbar, the Game → New menu entry in the menubar or with the default shortcut Ctrl+N.

If a new game is started when a game is already active, it is counted as a loss.
Changing the difficulty can be done with the Difficulty drop down box in the right end of the status bar, or from the Settings → Difficulty menu in the menubar.

The effect of changing difficulty takes place immediately.

You can switch the theme of Bovo from the Settings → Theme menu in the menubar. The theme is then switched immediately.

Animation can be switched on or off as you like from the Settings → Animation menu in the menubar.

If you just realized you made a very bad move, you have the possibility to undo your last move from the toolbar, the menubar or with the default undo keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Z.

You can keep on undoing moves until you reaches the beginning of the game.

If you don't know what move to make, you can get a hint from the computer player with the Hint button. The game piece suggested by the Bovo AI then flashes for a brief period of time.

When a game is over, the Replay action is enabled, which starts a replay of the last game.

Interface Overview.
Menu Items

Escaping ghosts in a maze with Kapman.

$

0
Kapman is a clone of the well known game Pac-Man. You must go through the levels escaping ghosts in a maze. You lose a life when a ghost eats you, but you can eat the ghosts for a few seconds when eating an energizer.
You win points when eating pills, energizers, and bonus, and you win one life for each 10,000 points. When you have eaten all the pills and energizers of a level, you go to the next level, and the player and ghost speeds increase. The game ends when you have lost all your lives.

Objective.
Go through the levels by eating all pills and energizers.
Kapman will load level one once you start the game. To start the game, press an arrow key. You move straight ahead without pressing any key. To turn, press an arrow key. You should not turn at the last moment, but anticipate and you will turn as soon as possible. To eat a pill, an energizer, a bonus, or even a ghost, you must get in touch with it. When all the pills and energizers have been eaten, you move to the next level.
A Kapman screenshot
Kapman is part of the KDE project http://www.kde.org/.

Kapman can be found in the kdegames package on ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/, the main FTP site of the KDE project.

Rules.
  • To move to the next level, you must eat every pill and energizer in the maze.
  • A bonus appears when you have eaten 1/3 and 2/3 of the pills and energizers. It disappears after a few seconds (10 seconds at the first level, but it decreases as the level increases) if you have not eaten it.
  • As the level increases, both your speed and the ghosts speed increase. However, the ghosts will be more and more faster than you.
  • If you get in touch with a ghost, you lose a life, and the current level restarts (but the eaten pills and energizer do not reappear).
  • If you are in the line of sight of a ghost (that is to say : no wall between the ghost, and both of you go to the same direction), the ghost will hunt you. Otherwise, the ghosts have a random moving.
  • When you eat an energizer, the ghosts slow down and you can eat them. If you eat a ghost, it goes back to its home and its normal behaviour. After a few seconds (10 seconds at the first level, but it decreases as the level increases), the ghosts that have not been eaten go back to their normal behaviour.
  • You win points when eating an item:
Item values.
Pill

Energizer

Bonus
Current level * 100 points
Ghost
It depends on the number of ghosts you have eaten since the last energizer was eaten:
  • 1st ghost: 100 points
  • 2nd ghost: 200 points
  • 3rd ghost: 400 points
  • 4th ghost: 800 points
Strategies and Tips.
  • To eat an item, you must get it touch with its center, not only a few pixels. So be sure you have really eaten what you wanted, before turning back.
  • At first levels, the bonus does not make a lot of points and ghosts are not very fast, so you should concentrate on eating the most ghosts that you can.
  • After about ten levels, the ghosts are faster and the bonus makes more points, so you should try to eat the bonus when possible. Do not hesitate to eat an energizer when you can see the bonus, to not be disturbed by the ghosts.
  • In the same way, you should try to eat an energizer before going to the dangerous places (like near the ghost home).
  • When the ghosts are too fast, you should avoid to eat them if you are near their home. They could go back faster than you think.
  • Do not hesitate to stay in the same place for a few seconds, waiting for the ghosts to go far away from the place you need to go.
  • You can find cheatcodes from the source code. But be careful: if you make a new high score but have cheated, your high score will not be registered.
  • Last but not least: Have fun !

Questions and Answers.
I want to change the way this game looks. Can I?
You can select the Kapman theme in the Settings → Configure Kapman... dialog. See the Game Configuration chapter for more details.

Can I skip a level?
There are two ways to change the current level. In both cases, you will be considered as a cheater and you will not be able to register to the high scores. The first way is using a cheatcode. I let you find it. The other way is selecting the level you want from the Game → Change Level dialog. See the Menubar section for more details.

Can I change default keyboard shortcuts?
It is not possible for now. But will be a new feature in a future version of Kapman. See the Default Keybindings section for more details.

I have to quit the game now, but I am not finished yet. Can I save my progress?
You can not, and it is deliberate. We think that the game would be too easy if you could save the game and reload it as you lose your lives.

How can I get more lives?
There are two ways to get lives. The first one is using a cheatcode. I let you find it. The other way is winning points. Every 10,000 points, you get a life more. See the Rules section for more details.
Game Configuration.
You can select the theme you want to play Kapman. To do that, select Settings → Configure Kapman.... The Kapman configuration dialog (see below) appears and you can then select the theme. It is immediately changed on validating your choice, no need to restart the game. You can click on the Defaults button to restore the default theme.

DotToDot numbers & letters (formerly known as DotToDot number whiz) is an educational app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad that brings an old children’s favourite into the 21st century.

Dot-to-dots are a great way to develop children’s number recognition and counting skills, but now they are more fun and educational than ever:

  • Aged-based settings that make it more challenging for older children (4-5 year-olds just have to count up in 1s, older siblings may have to count in 2s, 4s or 7s or know the order of the alphabet)
  • Leaderboards so your kids can try to beat their own or their siblings’ best times
  • Practice for fine motor skills
  • Fun animation, graphics and sounds your kids will love
  • 12 dot-to-dot puzzles

FAQ.

dot-to-dot_thumb2

The app's crashing or getting stuck. What can I do?
First thing to try is to turn your iPhone/iPad completely off and then on again. If this does not resolve the problem, please report it as a bug to us via the help and support section within the app's Parentzone.

How do you move onto the next puzzle?
You move on to the next puzzle by touching the right arrow button in the top-right of the screen.

And, if there isn't a right arrow button?
If the player has the setting switch on that they have to unlock each puzzle, then they have to beat each puzzle's unlock time before they can move onto the next puzzle. The right arrow button will not be shown if they have not unlocked the puzzle.
You can switch this off through the player's settings.

How do change the age of a player?

  • Choose the player on the home screen,
  • When the screen appears that shows a dot-to-dot puzzle, touch the "player settings" button in the bottom right hand corner.
  • Near the top of the screen that appears there should be a "edit player" button - touch this
  • A new screen will appear and you can change the player's age here.

How do I delete a player?

  • Choose the player on the home screen,
  • When the screen appears that shows a dot-to-dot puzzle, touch the "player settings" button in the bottom right hand corner.
  • Near the top of the screen that appears there should be a "edit player" button - touch this
  • A new screen will appear and half-way down this screen, there should be a "delete player" button.

Why is the time given for completing the puzzle longer than I think it should be?
Is there a message on the screen saying how many times you touched the wrong dots? If so, you touched some of the dots in the wrong order, and each time you do this a time penalty is imposed.
